Having suffered with back problems and arthritic joints, I was very wary about joining a gym. Quite apart from being afraid that I would hurt my already aching body, I just found it very boring. Finding myself fat and forty, I decided that I had to do something. My hairdresser had trained with Ruth and, bursting with vitality, was extolling the virtues of personal training. I rang Ruth the next day, a Sunday - I just couldn’t wait. She was enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable. She made me believe that fitness might just be within my reach. She was realistic, however, and after our first meeting came back very quickly with a programme and a list of dates. I have been training with Ruth for 2 months now and I haven’t felt this good in years. Ruth varies my programme every session so that I progress all the time and never become bored. I am getting stronger and fitter and have much more energy. Working with Ruth has changed my attitude to fitness and health and, for the first time ever, I look forward to going to the gym. Firstly I should say I'm not a natural in the gym but Ruth has worked with me over the last few months helping me to conquer my fear of the gym itself and all the machines. She has always been professional whilst being very approachable, pushing me to work harder and do better (listening to me moaning but not letting me get away with anything!!) but never pushing me too far and putting me off altogether. I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy working out with Ruth - she has made my sessions interesting, informative, varied and fun - which is very important to me. I keep coming back for more!!!!! Since meeting Ruth just 5 weeks ago I have noticed a huge improvement in several areas: I now have much more energy, I sleep better, I have lost weight ( and gone down a dress size!), I'm more toned and I have increased the time I can spend on the Cross Trainer by 500%. I first joined a gym 2 years ago, as my intention was to get fitter and stronger. I persevered with the programme I was given and waited for the results to happen. I did lose weight but never saw the muscle gains that I expected. That was until April 2005, when I first met Ruth. Ruth put together a personalised programme for me, explaining what each exercise did and, more importantly, she spent a great amount of time demonstrating how to perform each exercise and checking that I was using the correct technique myself. I couldn't believe my eyes in the first six weeks alone. I was increasing the weights I was lifting week on week and was gaining muscle I never thought I could. Ruth has been helping me for over 4 months, and I now have more muscle mass than ever before in my life. She constantly updates my programme and introduces new exercises, which prevents my body getting use to the old ones and keeps variety in my programme. Going to the gym has now become enjoyable rather than a task I feel I should do. The most satisfying part to me is the comments I have had from my friends on the change in my body shape. The encouragement Ruth has given me has been invaluable and I will certainly be using her for many years to come. Peter - Web Designer

After a fall in December 2004 I suffered numerous dislocations of my shoulder and was subsequently referred by Macclesfield Hospital to a specialist at The Royal Liverpool Hospital. An MRI scan showed a weakness in the ball and socket joint and I was advised to build up the muscles to help hold the joint together prior to an operation. |

I contacted Ruth at my local gym, as I had no idea what type of exercise I should be doing, and she devised a programme of weight bearing exercises to build up my shoulder muscles. In September 2005, I attended a ‘pre-operative’ clinic to test my suitability for anaesthetic etc. I had another MRI scan and, after reviewing the results, the Consultant advised me that my muscles were now so strong in my shoulder that there was no need for the operation. |

I cannot thank Ruth enough for all her help. I now intend to continue my exercise sessions with her, and have further fitness goals I want her to help me achieve. Paul – Managing Director

I’ve enjoyed every session with Ruth – she pushes you further each time and won’t take no for an answer! She’s very knowledgeable and patient and I’ve learnt a lot from her. In just a few weeks my endurance, strength and cardiovascular fitness have increased and body shape has changed for the better. Jo – local Council assistant.
